Auch wenn gut gemachte Illustrationen von ihrer Güte in der Darstellung von Proportionen und Formen leben, sind sie doch in der Regel reduzierte Abbildungen der Wirklichkeit und/oder Fantasie. Bei Jessie Young könnte man beim Anblick einiger Motive aus der Ferne denken, es handele sich um Fotografien. Schaut man etwas näher hin, kommt man zum Trugschluss, es handelt sich um Fotografien, denen ein Art Filter drüber gestülpt worden ist. Aber falsch – das ist alles komplett Vektor-basiert erstellt worden. Wahnsinnig gut!

„I draw what I see. I start in Adobe Draw on my iPad to get the shapes and values of each portrait, and then I move the file to Adobe Illustrator on my Macbook Pro to draw the colors and gradients. These aren’t photos! I use no filters, no live-tracing or live-painting. They’re all just marks on a surface. It’s a lot like painting in acrylics, but I have the luxury of hitting ‚undo‘.“ (Artist Statement)

Beim Anblick der rund zwei Minuten Kurzfilm von Stu Maschwitz kann man nur erahnen, was für ein Aufwand hinter der Erstellung der simpel erscheinenden Licht-Vektor-Motive liegt. Mehr Mathematik als Animation und doch ungemein ergreifend, dieses „TANK“.

„Introducing Tank, a new short film from Red Giant’s Chief Creative Officer, Stu Maschwitz. In a visual homage to vector arcade games of the 80’s (like Battlezone and Star Wars), Tank tells the story of a team of pilots that must take on a weapon of mass destruction in a battle to save their world.“

Eine visuell sehr ansprechende Spielerei von Masahiko Sato.

„In ‚ballet rotoscope‘, by extracting the movement of a dancing ballerina, we created a animation of locus drawn in the air, and dancing geometric figures, composed with a documentary picture. The geometric figures were created by connecting the movement of ballerina’s joints by using algorithm of computer geometry(such as ‚convex hull‘,and ‚Delaunay diagram‘). Our aim was to represent a complete new type of beauty, by showing the interaction of abstract animation with realistic movements and documentary film.“
