Mit „Little Lithuania“ liefert Filmemacher und Fotograf Joerg Daiber uns ein neues Kapitel seiner fortlaufenden Reihe Little Big World. Das kleine Gewusel funktioniert auch in diesem Video wieder vorzüglich, wobei mir vor allem so besondere kleine Sequenzen wie die mit den Dachdeckern gefallen. Auf unserer Reise durch Skandinavien+ hatten wir damals leider „nur“ Estland und Lettland mitnehmen können, Litauen fehlt mir noch.

Lithuania is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. It offers an amazing variety of beautiful locations. But don’t take my word for it. Alaska is the largest and northernmost state in the USA. It’s also my new favorite place in the US so far. I have been there a while back for a documentary shoot and extended my stay for a bit to collect some material for this epiosde. Unfortunately the wheather was not too great for a large amount of the time there, but I guess that’s part of the deal in Alaska…

Either way, enjoy this trip though amazing glaciers, beautiful vilages and breathtaking sceneries.

Und schon wieder gibt es Neues aus der „Little Big World“! Nachdem uns Joerg Daiber bereits vor etwa zwei Wochen zum Wohnsitz des Weihnachtsmannes geführt hat, gibt es auch dieses Mal wieder wunderschöne Lappland-Aufnahmen zu sehen. Viel Vergnügen mit dem Wusel-Look in „Swedish Lapland“!

Swedish Lapland is in northernmost part of Sweden. Nearly a quarter of Sweden’s land area is in Lappland. I got to enjoy a few fabulous sunny days there with midnight sun, reindeers, fishing, rafting, biking, kayaking, mosquitos and amazing food.

Und das zu einer ungewöhnlich grünen Jahreszeit. „Rovaniemi, Lapland“ ist jetzt nicht das beste und aufregendste Tilt-Shift-Video jemals, hält aber auch wieder einige sehr schöne Landschaftsaufnahmen für uns bereit. Rovaniemi is the regional capital of Lapland, Finland. It is located near the Arctic Circle. Rovaniemi is also considered by Finns to be the official home town of Santa Claus. There is also some amazing nature surrounding the city. I was lucky enough to spend a couple of very long days with midnight sun there.

I am pretty sure, that some people will hate the Musical soundtrack for this film, but I think it’s hilarious, works great with the images and bring in just about the right amount of Christmas vibe for a film set during midsummer :)

Tampere is a city located in the Finnish Lakeland. It’s a beautiful city and I got to enjoy a few fabulous sunny days there around midsummer.

In der Regel reicht es ja bereits, wenn Joerg Daiber uns ganz normal in seine Little Big World entführt, aber für sein neueste Video hat der Fotograf und Filmemacher gleich noch einen netten Zusatzeffekt auf Lager. „The Alps through the changing Seasons“ hält nämlich Aufnahmen aus allen vier Jahreszeiten bereit, was vor allem dann eindrucksvoll wirkt, wenn quasi per Knopfdruck in einer Sequenz zwischen Frühling, Sommer, Herbst und/oder Winter geswitched wird.

Schloss Elmau is a five-star hotel and national monument, situated between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald in a sanctuary of the Bavarian Alps, Germany. It lies at the foot of the Wetterstein mountains. It’s the only venue, that has hosted the G7 Summit twice. I was lucky enough to be invided by them to shoot footage from the activities in the area sourrounding the hotel in different times of the year.

Joerg Daiber hat ein neues Kapitel seiner Little Big World eröffnet. Dieses Mal führt es uns nach Belgien in die schöne Stadt Gent. Oder, wie er es betitelt – ins „Glorious Ghent“!

Ghent is a city in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is often overlooked by tourists in favor of Bruges while I found it to be the actually more interesting city. With it’s remarkably well preserved and restored medieval architecture, the city still feels much less like a tacky tourist trap than Bruges. However enjoy this miniaturized ride through the city and in less than 3 amazing minutes.

Joerg Daiber hat ein neues Video seiner Little Big World veröffentlicht. In „Rotterdam Rocks“ verschlägt es uns in die niederländische Stadt, die ich immerhin ein Mal auch selbst zu sehen bekommen habe. War nur ein Tagestrip (von Den Haag aus), aber alleine für das epochal gestaltete Einkaufszentrum/Marktgebäude lohnt es sich!

„Rotterdam is easily my new favorite city in Europe! I love everything about this place and would prefer it 10 times over Amsterdam for my next visit in Holland. Rotterdam has a population of only about 6-700.000, but in every corner it feels much more like an actual city than Berlin for instance, which ís more than 5 times bigger. The architecture is amazing, fantastic museums, bars clubs and restaurants. All the people I met were super nice, friendly and extemly helpful in getting my access to vantage points around the city. This footage has been sitting on my hard drive for a very long time now, before I came around to finally put it together. You can probably tell by the social distance circles in the park :)“

Joerg Daiber hat ein neues Kapitel seiner Little Big World aufgeschlagen und verschlägt uns dieses Mal nach Amsterdam. Das wuselige Treiben in Gassen und Grachten ist mal wieder wunderschön anzuschauen.

So during peak pandemic in 2020 I decided that it might probably be a good time to visit the city with much less tourists than usually. However, I still thought it was pretty packed and don’t want to imagine what it normally looks like. Joerg Daiber, Liebhaber von Alliterationen und Vermeider von Umlauten, hat ein neues Kapitel seiner Little Big World veröffentlicht. Dieses Mal verschlägt es uns nach Downunder, wo wir die Region Melbourne dank Tilt-Shift-Technik im vermeintlichen Miniatur-Format zu sehen bekommen. Wie immer ist das zeitgeraffte Bildspektakel sehr kurzweilig geraten.

„I was in Australia to shoot an ARTE documentary in the Outback and decided to stay one week longer and team up with Visit Victoria to shoot my first Little Big World episode in Australia. Melbourne consistently ranked as the world’s most liveable city for much of the 2010s and I can toally see why! It’s a big vibrant city with impressive architecture, amazing cultural offers, from museums to street art, live music and theatre. Also there are some pretty great food places in the city. Many beautiful parks in the area invote to relax and the the Yarra River for water activitie. Oh, and the Ocean is just a quick tram ride away. But don’t take my word for it. Check it out yourself in less than 4 minutes.“

Vor ziemlich genau einem Jahr hatte Joerg Daiber ein Tilt-Shift-Video zu Garmisch-Partenkirchen veröffentlicht. Jetzt folgt die Winter-Variante, die uns die umliegenden Bergzüge mit all ihrem Schnee zeigen. Das passt doch eh viel besser!

„Garmisch-Partenkirchen is an Alpine ski town in Bavaria, southern Germany. Nearby is Germany’s highest mountain, Zugspitze, at 2,962 metres (9,718 ft) above sea level. Garmisch (in the west) and Partenkirchen (in the east) were separate towns for many centuries, and still maintain quite separate identities with a rivalery going on between them that is mostly on ironic terms, but not always though…“

Ich fand große Menschenmassen auf engem Raum ja eh schon immer doof, aber vor allem mit Gedanken an die Pandemie ist es schon seltsam, Aufnahmen vollgepackter Bierzelte beim Oktoberfest zu sehen. Naja, wenigstens müssen wir die dortige Musik nicht hören und bekommen sie Sequenzen in schicker Tilt-Shift-Optik zu sehen! Neben Oktoberfest hat Joerg Daiber aber auch noch einige normale Aufnahmen aus München für sein neueste Kapitel der „Little Big World“ zusammengestellt.

„Munich is the third-largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg. Over the last few years I have visited Munich many times for private and business reasons. Every time I was there and could spare a little bit of time, I would try to collect some shots. Finally I have enough material together for a Little Big World episode. Check out some of the most popular spots in Munich and of course the Oktoberfest in adorable miniature size in only 3 minutes.“

Ich war (bis auf das Umsteigen am Flughafen) erst einmal für wenige Tage in Oslo, fand die norwegische Hauptstadt aber vor allem wegen ihrer reichhaltigen Architektur sehr interessant. Joerg Daiber hat ihr gleich mal ein eigenes Kapitel seiner Little Big World gewidmet und vier Minuten schöne Bilder aus Skandinavien mitgebracht.

Nach „Ukraine Unreal“ und „Kyiv Forever“ liefert uns Jörg Daiber jetzt ein neues Kapitel seiner Little Big World, das sich der Region annimmt, die aktuell dem Angriffskrieg Russlands ausgesetzt ist. „Oh Odessa“ zeigt uns friedvolle Impressionen der Millionenstadt im Süden des Landes aus einer Zeit und setzt zeitgleich auch ein Zeichen gegen den Krieg:

„I was visiting Ukraine by the end of last summer and stayed a few days in Odessa to hang out at the beach for a bit, enjoy some sea food and do a trip to the catacombs…and shoot this episode of course. Only a few month later Ukraine has been under attack and tousands of people have been killed. I still can not wrap my head around that. It’s diffcult to not to get involved in politics these days and I still try hard, but I’ll say this much: F**k the ugly, bald guy!“

Wenn ich an mein Geburtsjahr 1986 denke, kommt auch unweigerlich der Gedanke an die große Nuklear-Katastrophe auf, die sich in dem Jahr in Tschernobyl zugetragen hat. Noch immer und auf lange weitere Zeit ist ein Gebiet dort komplett abgeriegelt. Joerg Daiber hat ein Gebiet besuchen können, um uns im Rahmen seiner Little Big World mit Tilt-Shift-Optik zu zeigen, wie es dort aktuell aussieht.

„I was visiting Ukraine by the end of last summer and did a two days trip to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. And just as if the events around this place would not be tragic enough, a few month later it was occupied by Russian troops. I still can not wrap my head around that. Supposedly Russian soldiers were even digging trenches in the Red Forest, which is among the most contaminated area and our dossimeters were freaking out as we passed by there… However, you could only enter the area with an organized tour, but despite the „Disaster-Disneyland-Character“ of the entire thing, this trip was an amazing experience. „

Schon wieder ein gelungenes Tilt-Shift-Video von Flurdeh, das uns dieses Mal in die Spielwelt der Neuauflage von „Final Fantasy VII“ (Partnerlink) entführt.

Tatsächlich habe ich auf meiner langen Liste möglicher Video-Ideen auch eine Tilt-Shift-Variante von „Rocket League“ stehen. Aber das Spiel selbst bietet vermutlich zu wenig Raum und Abwechslung, um da was Vernünftiges draus zu basteln. Anders schaut das natürlich bei „Elden Ring“ (Partnerlink) aus! Flurdeh hat das Hype-Rollenspiel in „Tiny Elden Ring“ verwandelt (so wie er es bereits mit anderen Spielen gemacht hatte).

Die Little Big World von Joerg Daiber hat sich neulich erst der Ukraine als Land gewidmet, jetzt soll es um die Hauptstadt Kiew gehen. Die schaut aktuell leider alles andere als schön aus, um es gelinde auszudrücken. Diese Aufnahmen in „Kyiv Forever“ zeigen, was für ein Spirit in der Stadt herrscht, wenn gerade keine Panzer herumfahren und Bomben vom Himmel fallen…

„I was visiting Ukraine by the end of last summer and stayed a few days in Kyiv. People called it the ‚New Berlin‘ back then and in fact it was a bustling city and daily life was as normal as it could possibly be. In many ways I even preferred Kyiv over Berlin, which has gotten so mediocre in recent years. Only a few month later the city has been under attack and tousands of people have been killed in the outskirts of Kyiv by Russian troups. I still can not wrap my head around that. At least for now it seems that Kyiv is safe again, but the fighting continues elsewere.
It’s heartbreaking to think about all the lovely people there and the suffering that they have to endure. I know its difficult to enjoy these images from another time, but it’s a reminder how fragile and precious peace is and that we should not take it for granted.“

Joerg Daiber hat ein weiteres Kapitel seiner Little Big World aufgeschlagen, das aktueller und doch wehmütiger kaum sein könnte. Die Bilder zeigen, wie schön die Ukraine sein kann, wenn nicht gerade Panzer darin umherfahren…

„I know its difficult to enjoy these images from another time, but it’s a reminder how fragile and precious peace is and that we should not take it for granted.“

Interessant sind auch Daibers weitere Ausführungen zum Dreh und den aktuellen Umständen:

„I was visiting Ukraine by the end of last summer and finished this edit a few weeks back. This was about the time when the news started reporting about Putin deploying his troops around the border of Ukraine. Ever since then I was hesitant to publish this film and it got worse every day with events proceeding. So I know it’s a very difficult time to post a film that shows a beautiful and picturesque Ukraine, that looks like it’s straight out of a magical fairytale, while there are currently tanks surrounding the major cities, residential areas being shelled and millions of refugees trying to get out of the country. It’s heartbreaking to think about all the lovely people there and the suffering that they have to endure now. Something like this was unthinkable just a few months back. Of course the Donbas war was ongoing and everybody was still mad about Crimea, but regular and daily life was as normal as it could possibly be.
I spoke with many people about their opinion on Russia and none of them was in favour of Russian politics and literally everybody felt much closer to Europe than to Russia. Most of them didn’t even want their kids to learn Russian in school. I felt that the public mood towards Russian politics was even more negative as in many other former Soviet countries like Georgia, Moldova or Armenia. At least among younger people that I ran into.“

Die Little Big World von Joerg Daiber ist um ein deutsches Kapitel reicher. Ich war noch nie in Garmisch Partenkirchen und kenne das Örtchen tatsächlich nur vom Wintersport. Das scheint aber tatsächlich ein ziemlich schönes Stückchen Natur zu sein!

„As the pandemic continues, I get to explore and shoot more great places here in Germany. I was invited to film an episode of the amazing Garmisch-Partenkirchen and surrounding area this summer. There is an incredible amount of things you can do within a very small radius from the city. You can literally leave the city in any direction and find something amazing to see and to do. You even take a train from the city center which brings you directly to the Zugspitze, the highest mountain peak in Germany. „

Joerg Daiber hat ein neues Kapitel seiner Little Big World aufgeschlagen und führt uns in die Stadt Venedig. Mir gefallen dabei vor allem kleine Wusel-Sequenzen, wie die mit den Restaurant-Tischen, die eifrig zurechtgestellt werden.

„Places that I probably would not have visited without the pandemic. I wanted to go to Venice for a long time, but never really was in the mood to put up with such an over-touristy place. So last summer during peak pandemic seemed like the time were I could finally go there. Of course it is still a very touristy place, but just much less crowded than normally. However, to my surprise I really liked the city a lot. It’s probably one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to and I can even see myself going there again in the post pandemic future in off season…“

Schöne Idee des YouTube-Kanals Flurdeh, einfach mal einen Tilt-Shift-Filter über gängige Videospiele zu packen. So sehen auch die ganz großen, unendlich weit wirkenden Epos-Erzählungen wie kleine Miniatur-Geschichtchen. Das ist größtenteils schon sehr schön anzusehen, auch wenn der Effekt nicht durchgängig komplett gelungen ist.

Für seine Little Big World hat es den geschätzten Filmemacher Joerg Daiber dieses Mal gar nicht so weit fort geführt. Das deutsche Erzgebirge hat auch so einiges an Schönheit zu bieten, wie uns dieses Tilt-Shift-Video hier zeigt!

„One of the upsides of this pandemic is that I got to explore and shoot some great places in Germany. I was invited to film an episode of the amazing Ore Mountains by the tourism board Erzgebirge. The area recently became a UNESCO World Heritage site among other things due to its rich cultual heritage in mining which dates back 700 years. The Ore Mountains are located in a so called Mittelgebirge, which is a relatively low mountain range or highland area, a typical geographical feature of central Europe.“

Joerg Daiber führt uns im Rahmen seiner „Little Big World“ dieses Mal nach Österreich, genauer gesagt in das kleine Örtchen Hallstatt (859 Einwohner*innen).

„This is the first of a few upcoming films from places that I probably would not have visited without the pandemic. Hallstatt is a small town in Upper Austria and with all the social media frenzy and overtourism I never had a great desire to go there. However, last summer I spend two weeks vacation in Austria approx. one hour away from Hallstatt and with travel restrictions at the time it seemed that this would be only possible time were a place like this could actually be bearable for a day trip. While locals there assured me that the town was literally empty, it still had this tourist trap feeling to it all over the place. However, it is objectively really pretty and picturesque and all that, but it still is not really my cup of tea I guess. But check it out for yourself in less than 3 minutes – in miniature of course.“

„Moldova is supposedly the least visited country in Europe and the second poorest country in Europe. While this might not sound very inviting to most people, I found this country to become my favorite destination on my pre-pandemic East Europe trip. The people are lovely, landscapes are beautyful, there is lots of interesting history and architecture and i had the best Pelmeni and Borscht ever there…“

„The Danube Delta is the second largest river delta in Europe. The greater part of the Danube Delta lies in Romania. This area was by far my favorite on my Romania trip. It is an amazing eco system with incredible wildlife and it’s amazingly beautiful. This film was shot in Tulcea and around Sfantu Gheorge.“
